NCYSUR is proud to announce that Jack Chung has completed all the requirements for his PHD, which focused on cannabis vaping and its implications for public health.

Jack has previously been featured in Connections including in this publication highlight which illustrates his hard work, dedication, scholarly contributions to the field and public communication of his findings. Under the supervision of NCYSUR's Director Jason Connor, Deputy Director Leanne Hides, NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellows Gary Chan and Janni Leung, Senior Research Fellow Daniel Stjepanović, and Emeritus Professor Wayne Hall, Jack has published over 20 papers in leading journals and won travel awards to present his research overseas, including at the College on Problems on Drug Dependence in New Orleans in 2025. Jack has given many interviews to broadcast media and writtten articles for the Conversation to communicate his results to the public. His paper "Cannabis vaping in youth: a systematic review and meta-analysis of risk factors in adolescents and young adults" was the top accessed and second most cited paper in 2026 in the Journal on Alcohol and Drugs, the oldest substance use journal in the US. Jack recently travelled to Japan with NCYSUR NHMRC EL Fellow Dr Carmen Lim for the latest exchange in the Bilateral Australia-Japan Drug Policy Initiative.
