The postgraduate research program at Curtin University’s National Drug Research Institute is entering a new era with the appointment of a new Director of Graduate Research.

NDRI Research Fellow Nic Taylor has been appointed to the role, which is responsible for developing the research culture within the enrolling school by facilitating contact between Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students and staff, beyond the student’s thesis committee.

“Transitioning from a HDR candidate to a Research Fellow is a challenging period that isn’t always adequately covered by the standard course requirements,” Nic said.

“Thankfully I’ve had many experienced mentors to help me navigate that space.

“My aim as the newly-appointed Director of Graduate Research at NDRI is to provide guidance and support to our HDR candidates that will not only help them throughout their course but help them succeed and work in their area of choice following their candidature.

“I aim to take the lessons and experiences I’ve had in my four years post-PhD and use those to help our current HDR candidates develop their skills and portfolios for roles beyond their candidature.”

NDRI has an active postgraduate research program and welcomes enquiries from prospective Masters and PhD students who are interested in alcohol and other drug research. Click here to find out more or here to watch short presentations from current NDRI scholars,
