Two rare high-level opportunities to make a significance contribution to the alcohol and other drug (AOD) sector in Australia are open for applications.

The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) at UNSW Sydney has commenced a global search for its next Director.

After 14 years in the role, Professor Michael Farrell has decided to step down as Director at the end of 2025.

NDARC is a world leader in the AOD field and is looking both nationally and internationally to find the right candidate. In parallel with the public advertisement, Perrett Laver is conducting an executive search process.

The incoming Director will lead the strategic direction and long-term vision of NDARC and maintain and enhance the Centre’s national and global standing.

Meanwhile, the National Drug Research Institute (NDRI) at Curtin University is looking for a dedicated Associate Professor (Research Academic) to lead the Institute’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health program area.

The successful candidate will oversee a multidisciplinary team of researchers who conduct original, community-focused research aimed at influencing policy and improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities regarding AOD.

As well as further positioning NDRI as a centre of best practice in community-driven research, the role will also contribute to mentoring staff and supervising First Nations postgraduate research students.

Applications for both roles close in early April. Click here find out more about the NDARC Director role, and here to find out more about the NDRI Associate Professor role.
