Symposiums at national AOD centres highlight research

March 2024

All four Australian national alcohol and other drug research centres are presenting local, national and international work as part of research symposiums in 2024.

NDRI is hosting the annual Alcohol Epidemiology Symposium of the Kettil Brunn Society in Fremantle on May 27-31.

And the 2024 NDARC Annual Research Symposium on 20 September 2024 will showcase the foremost research in the alcohol and other drugs sector and related fields.

NCETA and NCYSUR both held successful symposiums in March highlighting the quality and breadth of their research.

The NCYSUR symposium featured early career and established researchers showcasing research in alcohol and other drug treatment, harm reduction, policy and prevention as well as international keynote presentations from Stanford University’s Professor Keith Humphreys on synthetic opioids and Professor David Hammond, from University of Waterloo in Canada, discussing the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project on Youth smoking, vaping and cannabis use.

Similarly, NCETA’s symposium included presentations on current research programs as well as  guest speakers before a focus on workforce development, including a panel discussion with Dr Sam White, from Addiction Practitioner’s Association Aotearoa in New Zealand.
