Project description:

This project is a collaboration between the South Metropolitan Health Service (Fiona Stanley Hospital & Rockingham General Hospital) with outcomes to be evaluated by NDRI. We will investigate the feasibility of delivering routine alcohol screening and brief intervention in hospital emergency departments and emergency short stay units. Participants will be randomised to have either a discharge summary on their alcohol use sent to their general practitioner or treatment as usual. This will allow us to determine if linking those with at-risk alcohol use to community resources increases the effectiveness of a brief intervention in hospital. Outcomes will be evaluated up to six months post enrolment into the study.
