NDRI HDR scholarship to examine impacts of criminal justice involvement

November 2022

NDRI has a new HDR scholarship available to work with a team to investigate how arrest and imprisonment impacts the health and social outcomes of people who use drugs, including recidivism.

Findings will help inform debates around drug decriminalisation.

The project is linked to a broader program of work conducted in relation to an Australian Research Council grant focusing on criminal justice impacts on two prospective cohorts of people who use drugs: SuperMIX, Australia’s largest cohort study of people who inject drugs, and VMAX, a cohort study of people who primarily smoke methamphetamine.

The total value of the annual scholarships (stipend and fees) is approximately $60,000-$70,000 per annum, and the PhD scholar will preferably be based in Melbourne, however this is not essential.
