Dr Amy Peacock awarded $1.4 million in first round of NHMRC Investigator Grant scheme

Congratulations to NDARC’s Dr Amy Peacock who was awarded $1.4 million in the first round of grants delivered through the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Investigator Grant scheme.
Dr Peacock, who is the Program Lead for Drug Trends, was awarded the funding for the project, Quantifying and reducing the burden of alcohol and illicit drug use.
Over the next five years, Dr Peacock will work to improve identification and responses to emerging drugs of concern by enhancing surveillance capacity (e.g. new data sources, methods, and analytic approaches).
She will attempt to strengthen estimates of disease burden by undertaking large-scale reviews with international organisation partners and will work with key collaborators to explore strategies to reduce harm from illicit drugs through novel interventions, methods (e.g. data linkage) and analytic approaches (e.g. machine learning).
The highly competitive Investigator Grant scheme is part of the NHMRC’s new grant program announced in December 2018.
More than $44 million was awarded to UNSW researchers for 29 projects under the new scheme, providing five-year funding certainty for high performing health and medical researchers from all career stages.
