Since the early 2000s across many high-income countries, there have been fewer adolescents and young adults who drink any alcohol and drink at levels that place them at risk of harm, but this is not the case among middle-aged and older adults.
There is increasing recognition of the impact of structural, cultural, political, and social determinants on the health and wellbeing of communities, particularly those with poorer health profiles. A key principle of these determinants is self-determination.
The NCETA team spent three hot and humid days in Australia’s beautiful Top End on the land of the Larrakia people for the 2022 APSAD Conference and presented findings on a range of topics from parental drinking motives and influences on alcohol supply to adolescents, alcohol and other drug related absenteeism, rural and remote workforce, and perceptions of zero-alcohol beverages and their use by adolescents.
